Project Description
The project seeks to increase the number of female police officers within the Haitian National Police (HNP) which will help improve security and peace in the country particularly in the project’s target areas. The project’s activities will allow young women primarily from at-risk areas with prevailing violence and insecurity to join the HNP and contribute to the country’s peace and security efforts. The project will also help advance intervention practices and the policing and security culture in Haiti by integrating more women into its police forces.
Expected Results
The expected results for this project include: (1) the HNP has strengthened its capacity to implement a gender-sensitive recruitment mechanism; (2) the Haitian National Police Academy has increased its capacity to ensure the success of its male and female students; (3) an improved ability to retain female police officers within the HNP; and (4) young women are better able to join peace and security movements.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2022 include: (1) developed training modules for female police recruits; (2) developed a distance learning platform; (3) held three training and awareness sessions on policing for 100 young women; (4) conducted a recruitment campaign for young female police recruits; (5) 81 female police recruits received pedagogical and psychological support in preparation for the entrance exam to the National Police Academy; (6) conducted a gender-based analysis; and (7) initiated and developed a communications plan on policing.
