Project Description

This project contributes to scaling up the provision quality coordination and impact of evaluation capacity development services by bringing together key actors and experts in the evaluation field. The World Bank Global Evaluation Initiative (GEI) is a global partnership of evaluation capacity development providers. Experts centred on the vision that better evidence contributes to better policies and ultimately to better lives. Monitoring and evaluation capacities and systems are weak in many developing countries. GEI acts as a broker to help developing countries find solutions and finance for their country monitoring and evaluation systems and capacity development build on their strengths and endogenous knowledge and leverage the best available local regional and global expertise. GEI plays a critical role in fostering the generation of monitoring and evaluation knowledge and its global sharing. Global Affairs Canada’s support helps GEI focus its efforts on assisting governments in developing their capacity for evidence in an inclusive culturally sensitive manner and considers gender and other aspects of inclusion.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) the role of monitoring and evaluating evidence-informed decision-making is better understood and valued by governments and other stakeholders in developing countries. The result is the increased use of evaluative evidence for decision-making and adaptive management in policies and programs; (2) improved governments and other stakeholders’ capacity in developing countries to conduct evaluations (tailored to national needs and priorities) manage and use monitoring and evaluation frameworks to develop more relevant and effective policies and programs; and (3) greater evidence resulting from monitoring and evaluation frameworks and quality evaluations made publicly available.
