Project Description

This project seeks to make an effective contribution to sustainable peace by preventing and resolving conflicts that affect girls and women mainly in Cameroon but also on a smaller scale in the Central African Republic. The purpose of this project is to build the capacities of girls and women human rights advocates in their roles as effective leaders and actors in peace and security matters. These new capacities will ensure their effective participation in peacebuilding national reconciliation and the search for solutions to ensure their protection. Project activities include: (1) providing training on individual protection; (2) producing a manual on protecting girls and women; (3) arranging inter-community peace dialogues; (4) building capacity to engage communities in implementing peace and reconciliation mechanisms; and (5) raising state actors’ awareness of the peace and reconciliation process and setting up peace clubs.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) legal protection practices for girls and women are stronger; and (2) girls and women are more engaged and have a greater capacity to help ensure sustainable peace in Cameroon and the Central African Republic.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2025 include: (1) provided mediation training to 45 young people (28 girls and 17 boys) with the collaboration of 20 mentors (15 women and 5 men); (2) arranged 13 community dialogues to promote peace and reconciliation with 588 people participating; (3) created 22 peace clubs to support the engagement of civilian populations in the peace and reconciliation process; (4) published a physical protection and data security manual for young people in 6 local languages; (5) strengthened the physical protection and data security knowledge and skills of 1 644 young people (1 576 girls and 68 boys); (6) organized 2 national campaigns to fight hate speech in Cameroon and the Central African Republic (CAR); (7) published and distributed 2 590 copies of a comic strip to make young people aware of hate speech online and off-line; (8) organized 4 national campaigns to fight hate speech in Cameroon and the CAR with 2 250 people participating (1 350 girls and women and 900 boys and men); and (9) organized 3 press conferences to launch the national campaigns to fight hate speech in Cameroon the CAR and Chad.
