Project Description

This project aims to reduce disparities in learning and academic achievement for girls from 6 to 12 years old in the first cycle of primary education in the regions of Mopti and Ségou. Project activities include: (1) providing conditional financial assistance to targeted vulnerable families to support girls’ education; (2) implementing innovative initiatives to improve the safety protection and transportation of students especially girls; (3) developing a digital teaching-support platform that has gender-sensitive educational and instructional tools and resources; and (4) holding training workshops for teachers on the content of a new curriculum and on inclusive and gender-responsive teaching. This project will benefit 44 500 people including teachers parents and community/religious leaders 57% of them women.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include the following: (1) better retention of and academic achievement by girls in the first cycle of primary education in the regions of Mopti and Ségou; and (2) improved quality and gender sensitivity of the primary education system.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) organized 3 570 remedial sessions reaching 2 943 children including 2 450 girls; (2) organized 30 awareness workshops on obstacles to girls' education held with 1 534 members of mothers' associations including 1 224 women; (3) supported 1 140 vulnerable families to benefit from cash transfers to support the education of their daughters; (4) organized 4 multimedia campaigns aimed at reducing barriers to girls' education reached 33 270 community members including 14 990 women; and (5) trained 444 teachers including 124 women in inclusive pedagogy and gender equality.
