Project Description
This project contributes to the Africa Climate Change Fund (ACCF) focusing on gender equality and climate action in Africa. This funding supports small-scale climate-resilient projects aimed at increasing women’s economic empowerment and initiatives enhancing women’s participation in climate negotiations in countries across Africa. Project activities include: (1) supporting women and girls in climate change adaptation work and other grantees seeking to address opportunities and challenges for women in the transition to low-carbon economies; and (2) organizing training outreach and awareness-raising activities to increase women’s participation in climate negotiations and to promote the integration of gender equality issues in national climate plans (NDC) and other national climate change strategies. The project beneficiaries include women entrepreneurs and their communities in adapting to climate change government officials working on climate change strategies and negotiations and stakeholders seeking to integrate gender equality considerations into the NDC process.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased use of climate-change-responsive financing technologies and practices by women entrepreneurs to facilitate their adaptation to climate change; (2) increased participation of women and women’s groups in community-level national and international climate change negotiations; and (3) gender equality considerations mainstreamed in subnational sectoral-level and national policies and programs including nationally determined contributions.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2023 include: (1) started to implement seven projects from the 10 projects selected through the call for proposals; (2) developed 18 guideline notes and quality of technical support for grantees on Gender transformative Climate Change Adaptation; and (3) delivered two extensive workshops in English and French on Gender Transformative Climate Change Adaptation with 35 participants of whom 16 women representing 26 countries. Also held a Results Based Management for Designing and Implementing a Monitoring and Evaluation System for gender and climate resilience projects with 25 participants of whom 11 women representing 26 countries.
